Compiled by the team who have published books on The Compagnie des Wagons-Lits and French Local Railways.
Together with substantial contributions from historians in Dunkerque, Calais and Paris, it promises to be an important addition
to the history of this famous train, which offered a form of travel well before the Channel Tunnel was planned and built.

About Us:
We are a group of people based at, and very much a part of the Nene Valley Railway, Wansford, England. We are dedicated to the restoration of the two Wagons-Lits vehicles based at the railway 'YTb 3916' and 'VR 2975', while at the same time taking an interest in the preservation and restoration of other Wagons-Lits coaches in Europe.

'The Nord Express' display at Wansford
Visitors to the railway are most welcome. The locomotive and two carriages currently under restoration can be viewed externally anytime during daylight hours, 365 days a year, at the Wansford Station site, Stibbington, Peterborough, England, PE8 6LR.

Working members of the International Railway Preservation Society are on site most weekends, with prior arrangement we will be very pleased to show you around the coaches internally and answer your questions.
If you wish to arrange a guided tour of our work, please go to the 'Contact Us' page and E-mail Philip Marshall.

Young Persons Initiative:
As well as dedicated older members, we are fortunate to have a good number of members in their teenage years.
We run two weekly groups, the first of which is called 'The Railway Club', for 12-14 year olds.
The Club members will concentrate on basic skills, restoring small items such as shunt signals, guards lamps, luggage trolleys and other numerous small items common to the railway scene.
We also hope to feature a model railway that will provide the opportunity to build and operate small demonstration layouts and instruct members in the basics of railway operation.
The Railway Club members will be closely supervised at all times and will be based away from safety critical areas.

The second group, ages 15-18, will be classed as 'Nene Valley Apprentices', and will work under the supervision of C.R.B checked railway members.
Any new 'Apprentice' will receive a full induction, covering all aspects of safety while working at the NVR and safe working practices e.g. using tools correctly.
Their work will mainly focus around that of the IRPS, restoring the two Wagon-Lits vehicles we have in our care.
However, there are many other projects available if one should wish to try their hand at something else, such as restoring a small industrial diesel shunter named 'FRANK' and the ongoing cosmetic restoration of 'Swedish B Class 101'.

We also understand that mechanical restoration is not to everyone's preference, so for those who do not wish to be involved with this aspect of the group there is the possibility of building a new model railway or training for station duties.
On reaching the required age it will be possible to train as a guard or signalman.
In the near future we will be calling upon the talents of our 'Apprentices' to help with the development of the site opposite Ferry Meadows station for new workshops and the 'Night Mail Museum'.
Both of these groups will also have a social aspect, offering the chance to make new friends and enjoy trips to other railways and societies as well as evenings out away from the railway scene.
All we ask is that our members conduct themselves in a mature manner, commit to regular attendance and are members of the Nene Valley Railway.
